KYOTO GARDEN 05/03/25-30/05/25
Oliver Sears Gallery, 33 Fitzwilliam st Upper, Dublin 2, Ireland
庭園 京都
The Zen Dry Gardens of Kyoto had beckoned for many years, in particular those of the great Japanese Garden Designer, Mirei Shigemori and other Temple Gardens in Kyoto that I was to visit in Spring of 2023/24. After so many years of looking at photographs in well worn books of these exquisite and particular designed mirrors of nature, I was present. But not as I had anticipated, instead transported in some undefinable way with nuances of the silence, elegance, simplicity, formality and a distinct meditative aspect to be experienced. Nothing really had prepared me for being there, in my stocking feet, my shoes left at the entrance gate with all these elements and structure to contemplate. Karesansui gardens, three dimensional pieces of art, such finely maintained gardens of enclosed nature, an experience so far away from my time spent in the open wild North Mayo landscape, however elementally similar.
